Why This Recipe Works
The magic here is the ease of preparation with just enough technique to make it taste homemade when you only have 20 minutes to get dinner on the table. Costco’s frozen mini wontons are already seasoned and cooked, so they only need a quick simmer to heat through without turning mushy. Building a quick teriyaki sauce from scratch using soy sauce, brown sugar, garlic, and ginger gives you that glossy, sweet savory depth that makes every spoonful feel indulgent.
Wonton Ramen Ingredients and What They Do
This easy recipe teriyaki ramen bowl only requires a few simple ingredients and steps to make. You may even have these items on hand. Let me walk you through what I use and what ingredients will give you the best results.
Ramen Noodles – I always use the Maruchan ramen blocks. These instant ramen noodles cook in just three minutes on the stove and cost less than $0.50 a piece. Simply cook the noodles and toss the water and seasoning packet out. Or you can save the seasoning packet for the end times, haha! If you have seen Orange is the New Black, you know where I am going with this.
I use these quick noodles in a variety of dishes I make including with my homemade curry sauce! The type of ramen you choose is up to you but if you use a different dry style noodle the cooking time may vary.
Frozen Wontons – (about 20-24 pieces) These are your protein and texture anchor. Store-bought wontons are a great option because they are re pre-cooked and simply need to be heated through and tossed in the sauce.
I use the bibigo mini wontons with chicken and cilantro from Costco in the freezer section. You can also use pork wontons for a richer, fattier flavor, while chicken wontons are a bit lighter. Don’t skip them or substitute with uncooked wontons unless you adjust the cooking time significantly.
Teriyaki Sauce – You can buy teriyaki sauce at your local grocery store in the international foods aisle but I always make my homemade sauce recipe since I regularly stock teriyaki sauce ingredients and it could not be easier to make. Not to mention the bottled teriyaki sauce usually has a lot of extra sodium and processed ingredients. My recipe is a simple combination of low sodium soy sauce, brown sugar, fresh garlic, and optional ginger.
Fresh ginger – Brightens the teriyaki sauce and cuts through the richness with a spicy, aromatic heat. Don’t skip this for powdered ginger. Fresh is essential for the right flavor.
Green Onion – I use the green parts, sliced small and added as a garnish for freshness and a pop of color. Green onions pair really well with Asian style cuisine, add a lot of flavor, and are best served raw. All that makes them the perfect topping for this wonton ramen.
Red Pepper Flakes – I like spicy food a lot and tend to add chili flakes or hot sauce to most of my savory dishes. This is totally an optional ingredient, but it gives the dish a little heat if you are into that. If you like milder heat, I also love this Trader Joe seasoning in this dish. Another option is a little chili oil or sweet chili sauce if you prefer.
Additional Toppings – I make this dish at least once a month because it is quick and easy. I have experimented with a variety of additional toppings depending on what fresh ingredients I have on hand. I have incorporated sesame seeds, diced bell peppers, crispy fried onions, carrots, and peas. You can also turn this into a broccoli stir fry by adding chunks of broccoli to the wonton pan. All are great options for a hearty meal.
Cooking Method
The best way to cook frozen wontons is in a large skillet over medium-high heat on the stovetop with a little bit of oil. I typically use olive oil or avocado oil due their neutral flavor. I am personally not a big fan of vegetable oil and try to avoid it but it would work here.
To cook the ramen, I also recommend cooking on the stovetop. While you can technically cook ramen noodles in the microwave, I always make mine on the stove top because instant ramen noodles only takes a couple of minutes to make in boiling water.

Description
That bag of Costco frozen mini wontons sitting in your freezer just became the base for the most satisfying weeknight dinner you didn’t know you needed. This Costco frozen wonton recipe is a full meal without a whole lot of effort and it doesn’t break the bank. This easy freezer item combines simple Asian flavors with a sweet and spicy teriyaki sauce and a pantry staple for a soup-less ramen noodle. This weeknight meal ditches the flavor packets and ramen broth for a bold twist on frozen wontons.
Ingredients
- 20-24 Frozen Wontons
- 1 tbsp Olive Oil or Avocado Oil
- 2 pkgs Instant Ramen Noodles
- 1/2 cup Reduced Sodium Soy Sauce
- 1/2 cup Brown Sugar
- 1 tsp Fresh Grated Ginger
- 2 tsp Garlic minced
- 1 tsp Red Pepper Flakes
- 4 Green Onions chopped for garnish
Instructions
- In a small sauce pot bring about 2 cups of water to a boil.
- Chop green onions and set aside.
- Once the water is boiling, add the blocks of ramen noodles and cook for 3 minutes and drain all the water. Do not use the seasoning packets.
- While the water boils, in a large non-stick skillet, heat oil over medium-high heat on the stove top.
- Add the frozen wontons in a single layer to the pan. Be careful not to burn yourself as the oil will splatter and it is HOT. Cook wontons for about 10 minutes or until golden brown flipping them occasionally so both side cook evenly. I find they cook a bit better if you cover them with a lid to help steam them in the pan a little.
- While the wontons cook, in a small bowl whisk together 1/2 cup brown sugar, 1/2 cup soy sauce, 1 tsp fresh grated ginger, and 2 tsp minced garlic.
- Once the wontons are golden brown, reduce heat to low and add 4 tbsp of the teriyaki sauce and coat the wontons. Simmer for a few minutes to allow the sauce to caramelize.
- Add the remaining sauce and red pepper flakes to the pot of drained ramen noodles and coat thoroughly. Simmer on low heat for 2-3 minutes.
- Dish the ramen onto a plate or a ramen bowl and top with cooked wontons and green onions.

Storage & Reheating
Leftover Costco teriyaki wonton ramen noodles can be stored in the fridge in an airtight container for up to 3 days. The noodles and the wontons will soak up the sauce and become gummy however. Before reheating, sprinkle with a little bit of water to add some moisture back in. Or toss with a drizzle of sesame oil and stir fry to reheat them.
When to Make Costco Wonton Ramen Noodles
This simple recipe is a great option when you are short on time and need a quick main dish.
