Description
That bag of Costco frozen mini wontons sitting in your freezer just became the base for the most satisfying weeknight dinner you didn’t know you needed. This Costco frozen wonton recipe is a full meal without a whole lot of effort and it doesn’t break the bank. This easy freezer item combines simple Asian flavors with a sweet and spicy teriyaki sauce and a pantry staple for a soup-less ramen noodle. This weeknight meal ditches the flavor packets and ramen broth for a bold twist on frozen wontons.
Ingredients
- 20-24 Frozen Wontons
- 1 tbsp Olive Oil or Avocado Oil
- 2 pkgs Instant Ramen Noodles
- 1/2 cup Reduced Sodium Soy Sauce
- 1/2 cup Brown Sugar
- 1 tsp Fresh Grated Ginger
- 2 tsp Garlic minced
- 1 tsp Red Pepper Flakes
- 4 Green Onions chopped for garnish
Instructions
- In a small sauce pot bring about 2 cups of water to a boil.
- Chop green onions and set aside.
- Once the water is boiling, add the blocks of ramen noodles and cook for 3 minutes and drain all the water. Do not use the seasoning packets.
- While the water boils, in a large non-stick skillet, heat oil over medium-high heat on the stove top.
- Add the frozen wontons in a single layer to the pan. Be careful not to burn yourself as the oil will splatter and it is HOT. Cook wontons for about 10 minutes or until golden brown flipping them occasionally so both side cook evenly. I find they cook a bit better if you cover them with a lid to help steam them in the pan a little.
- While the wontons cook, in a small bowl whisk together 1/2 cup brown sugar, 1/2 cup soy sauce, 1 tsp fresh grated ginger, and 2 tsp minced garlic.
- Once the wontons are golden brown, reduce heat to low and add 4 tbsp of the teriyaki sauce and coat the wontons. Simmer for a few minutes to allow the sauce to caramelize.
- Add the remaining sauce and red pepper flakes to the pot of drained ramen noodles and coat thoroughly. Simmer on low heat for 2-3 minutes.
- Dish the ramen onto a plate or a ramen bowl and top with cooked wontons and green onions.
