What is Kraft Chipotle Aioli Sauce?
In order to answer that question, I first need to answer what is aioli? True homemade aioli is a mixture of real garlic, olive oil, and salt mashed together into a thick paste like sauce. Classic aioli is very tedious to make because the oil needs to be added one drop at a time. Because good quality aioli is a long process, many recipes as we know them are made with the addition of a raw egg or egg yolk.
So what is chipotle aioli? Aside from being one of my favorite condiments it is a creamy sauce with smoky chipotle flavor and a little spice. It is similar to a sriracha aioli or mayo with a more intense smoky flavor. You can find the Kraft bottled version at grocery stores in the condiment aisle near the mayo and salad dressing.
Why I Love This Recipe
This is one of my favorite recipes because it is very easy, there is no cooking required, and it only requires five ingredients! While I do enjoy the store bought version of Kraft chipotle aioli, I haven’t been able to find it everywhere lately and it has gotten a bit pricey. But if I make my own I can whip up a batch whenever I have a craving since I stock all these ingredients in my kitchen on a regular basis. This delicious sauce is perfect for burgers, French fries, onion rings, tater tots, and even breakfast sandwiches! Side note, no fancy food processor or immersion blender required. Just whisk or stir with a spoon!
Copycat Ingredients
This tasty twist on a chipotle mayo recipe only requires five simple ingredients you probably already have in your kitchen. Let me walk you through what I used and how easy this copycat chipotle aioli is.
Mayonnaise – While true aioli recipes are actually different from mayonnaise, I like to keep my homemade dipping sauces simple. And because mayo and aioli are often both made from raw eggs, I used mayo as the base of this copycat condiment. It gives this dipping sauce a creamy and tangy flavor. Feel free to use whatever brand you want but I prefer real mayonnaise. You can also make homemade mayo if you like but it’s definitely not necessary.
Smoked PaprikaĀ – As the name suggests, smoked paprika has a very smoky flavor yet quite earthy. This will add the smoky heat you would find in chipotle chiles and add depth of flavor to the sauce. This is a crucial ingredient in this aioli recipe and should not be substituted.
Cayenne PepperĀ – This is another one of my favorite spices. A little goes a long way to add heat to a dish and in this case adds the spicy flavor. Because this copycat recipe is a spicy sauce, I do not recommend skipping this. I didn’t want to mess with a can of chipotle peppers in adobo sauce and it turns out, I didn’t need to. Cayenne added just enough heat with the other spices.
Chili Powder – Chili powder is a combination of ground spices that usually includes garlic powder, paprika, onion powder, cumin, oregano, and ground chili peppers like ancho chilis. This adds the additional flavors and spice needed in this sauce without any other extra seasonings and has a milder heat level than cayenne.
Lemon JuiceĀ – Because mayo is a creamy base, a little lemon juice really helps balance it out with acidity and thins the sauce a little.

- Prep Time: 5
- Category: Sauces
- Method: No Cook
- Cuisine: American, Tex-Mex, Mexican
Storage
The best way to store leftover spicy chipotle aioli is the fridge in anĀ airtight containerĀ for up to 4 days. Since this recipe contains lemon juice and dairy, the shelf life will be limited and can sour if kept too long. I usually only make what I intend to use for a meal so I do not waste any.
