A Non-Traditional Twist on Pizza

If you know me in real life you know I love putting a twist on traditional food to bring new flavors and life to it. This is no exception. I love chicken pad Thai and many of the ingredients often make their way onto my pizzas, so why not a pad Thai pizza?

What is Pad Thai?

Pad Thai is a traditional stir fried street food in Thailand frequently made with shrimp or chicken, rice noodles, vegetables, peanuts, and bean sprouts. It is mixed with an acidic peanut based sauce often made with fish sauce and rice vinegar and often garnished with lime.

Chopped vegetables on a wooden cutting board, including sliced white onions, red and yellow bell peppers, green onions, shredded carrots, and finely chopped herbs. A folded striped kitchen towel is in the background.

Pad Thai Ingredients

For this recipe I stuck to a rather traditional pad Thai combo with chicken, veggies, peanuts, and pad Thai sauce. You can use fresh chicken or canned chicken, it just needs to be shredded. I usually make a chicken breast in the pressure cooker and shred it. For the sauce you can make your own or use store bought. I usually make mine to control the sodium content. For the cheese you can use whatever shredded blend you like. I used a bagged Mexican blend here.

A rectangular baking sheet holds an uncooked pizza recipe with crescent rolls, topped with an abundance of shredded cheese, sliced red and yellow bell peppers, and chunks of chicken. A striped gray and white kitchen towel is draped in the background.

What is crescent roll dough?

Crescent roll dough is just like a can of crescent rolls only it comes in a full sheet without the perforated lines and it is the size of a sheet pan. Crescent dough bakes up to a nice golden brown color with a soft and flaky crust making a delicious pizza. It is sold in grocery stores right next to the original tube of crescent rolls, Grands biscuits, and cinnamon rolls.

If you cannot find crescent roll sheets you can use the regular crescent roll package. You will just need to pinch all the seams together to make sure your pizza crust bakes evenly.

A large rectangular tray containing a freshly baked crescent rolls is on the counter. A green silicone pastry brush with a wooden handle rests on top of the flatbread. In the background, part of a folded white and gray striped cloth is visible.

When to Make Crescent Roll Pizza

This is such an easy life hack it can be applied for many occasions! The crescent roll crust bakes fast and you only need a few simple ingredients to turn this store-bought dough into an easy pizza. It’s the perfect appetizer for game day, Super Bowl Sunday, a quick week night meal, or easy snacks. No matter the occasion, it will quickly be added to the family favorites.

Alternative Pizza Toppings

If pad Thai is outside of your comfort zone, this crescent roll recipe can be made with any of your favorite pizza toppings. Here are some additional options for dinner recipes or a delicious appetizer.

Traditional pepperoni pizza with pepperoni slices, marinara sauce or pizza sauce, shredded mozzarella cheese, and Italian seasoning.

Breakfast pizza with scrambled eggs, breakfast sausage, gravy, cheddar cheese.

Meat lover pizza with spicy pepperoni, a sausage mixture, ground beef, green peppers, onions, and parmesan cheese.

Crescent roll veggie pizza recipe with ranch dressing, red peppers, green peppers, onion, broccoli, carrots, and celery.

BBQ chicken pizza with barbeque sauce as the base, chicken, cilantro, and red onion.

Whatever your your favorite toppings are, this will definitely be one of your favorite recipes!

Pro Tip: To speed up the chopping process, I use this slicer. It is truly a game changer when it comes to prep work!
