What is infused vodka?

Infused vodka is when you add flavoring to regular vodka by submerging the flavor in the alcohol and allowing it to sit for a period of time. This allows the vodka to take on the flavoring of what you have added. This can be done with a variety of ingredients like fruit, vegetables, citrus, herbs, candy, and even coffee.

Why infuse your cocktails?

Infused vodka is simply another way to add additional flavoring to regular cocktails in a more natural way rather than adding artificial ingredients or simple syrups.

A vibrant still life of fresh vegetables and a lemon on a white surface. The arrangement includes celery stalks in a glass jar, red and green bell peppers, baby carrots in a white bowl, a cucumber, and a lemon. A knife rests nearby.

What cocktails can you make with jalapeno vodka?

If you like spicy drinks you can make a delicious cocktail with various flavors like fresh mint, lemon juice, and grapefruit juice. Simply mix any of your favorite cocktails with this spicy vodka, all you need to do is replace the plain vodka.

The obvious choice here is a classic bloody Mary. Since Bloody Mary’s are frequently made with tomato juice, vegetables, and spicy ingredients like jalapeno slices and tabasco sauce, spicy vodka is a natural pairing.

If you like a classic cocktail like cranberry and vodka, you can add a spicy kick to your cranberry juice for a fiery cranberry and vodka. Just add ice cubes.

If you are craving a refreshing beverage like a Moscow mule, adding jalapeno flavor to ginger beer is great twist for an extra kick. Moscow mules are one of my favorite drinks to make and let me tell you, the spicy flavors are perfect in this summer classic.

Another great option is adding pineapple juice and fresh orange juice for a sweet heat cocktail. The sweet and spicy combination makes the perfect cocktail.

How long does it take to infuse vodka?

Infusion time will vary based on personal tastes. To achieve maximum flavor, fruits, vegetables, and herbs should be infused in vodka for five to seven days. For milder flavor let it sit less time. For more intense flavor infuse it longer. The longer the slices of jalapeno sit in the vodka the greater the level of spiciness.

Does infused vodka need to be refrigerated?

When using fresh ingredients like fruits and vegetables, it is best to refrigerate so they do not spoil. If you are using pantry items like candy, dried herbs, or coffee, it does not need to be refrigerated. Since the ingredients are submerged in alcohol the risk for bacteria growth is low.

Can you infuse vodka too long?

Yes and no. Truly it depends what you are using to infuse your vodka. Some ingredients will break down over time and start to develop a sour or bitter taste. Ingredients like fruit may cause the vodka to become overly sweet as well. But this will vary based on your taste buds.

Do you have to add vegetables?

Nope! You can also make this recipe with just sliced jalapenos but the vegetables do add a little extra flavor. I made this batch with Bloody Mary’s in mind and the veggies are a great addition. But I also love this mix in a Moscow mule too!

Pro Tip: To speed up the chopping process, I use this slicer. It is truly a game changer when it comes to prep work!
