What is a mimosa?
A mimosa is an alcoholic beverage usually made with sparkling wine or champagne and a non alcoholic mixer or two, frequently juice.
This recipe combines a traditional mimosa with an apple cider fireball cocktail. A great cocktail for fall parties and the holiday season. All you need is apple cider, sparkling wine, and cinnamon whiskey for this hard cider recipe.
Ingredient List
This is an easy recipe with simple ingredients to make a delicious spiked apple cider. Here are my notes for you including substitutions 😉
Apple Cider – One of the main flavors in this cocktail is apple cider. I used fresh apple cider I picked up at my local grocery store. Any brand of regular apple cider will do. I picked the store brand because it came in a smaller quantity. Many times fresh cider is a seasonal item and comes in large gallon containers in the produce section.
Fireball Cinnamon Whiskey – A shot of fireball whiskey will give this cocktail recipe it’s strong cinnamon flavor and boozy kick. If you are not a whiskey fan, don’t worry, this is not your grandpa’s whiskey. It tastes much more like cinnamon than alcohol. But you could also make it with cinnamon schnapps if whiskey is a hard pass.
Sparkling Wine – Champagne or sparkling wine is what turns this fireball cider recipe into a mimosa with a bit of fizz and bubbles. If you would like a less boozy version you can use sparkling grape juice or a splash of ginger ale or ginger beer. I used dry sparkling wine but you can use a spumante if your taste buds prefer a sweeter drink.
Mixing – I did not use my cocktail shaker for this since it has carbonated sparkling wine. If you have ever made this mistake, you know. It will explode. I simply added each ingredient to a glass and stirred.
Ice – Because this fireball cider cocktail is a play on a mimosa, I like this as a chilled version rather than a hot cocktail like many other fall drinks. When I make cocktails with ice I like to use large ice molds or spheres because they don’t melt as fast and water your drink down.
Fancy glasses – I used my grandma’s old fashioned martini glasses because I love the shape, but a rocks glass, a wine glass, or even a champagne flute would be a suitable serving glass for this as well.
Garnish – You can garnish this cocktail with slices of apple, orange, cinnamon sticks and even star anise if you can find it. Caramel sauce is a great addition as well if you like a little extra sweetness.

I often make this as a cold weather drink, but it is the perfect addition to a holiday party or a night in by the fire with a good book.
Mocktail Option
Maybe you don’t drink or have kiddos who want to join in the fun. No problem. Just mix the apple cider with sparkling grape juice and a sprinkle of cinnamon and omit the alcohol. Garnish with an orange slice or an apple slice, and a cinnamon stick.
Cocktail Variations
Feel free to put your own spin on this cocktail this fall season. You can top this winter drink with fresh citrus like orange or lemon juice. You can also make an apple pie version with whipped cream topping and caramel sauce. You can also use caramel with a cinnamon sugar rim for sweeter taste buds. If you don’t have apple cider, apple juice can work too. You can even turn this into a traditional hot toddy with hot cider and cinnamon whiskey in a slow cooker. Just add some fresh cinnamon or whole cloves while it cooks.
