Ingredients
These easy appetizers are the perfect addition to your holiday season menu. Here are my notes on ingredients for the best results.
Fresh Pear – You will need to use fresh pears for this recipe. I used Anjou pears because they are sweet and have a larger shape than Bartlett pears making them easier to serve as bite size appetizers. I have made this using Bartlett pears but I felt like they were more difficult to serve since they are smaller. You can use whatever you prefer, even Bosc pears if they are available. Just make sure to use ripe pears that are not too soft. If you don’t like pears I think this would also be good on a green apple slice.
Blue Cheese – You either love it or hate it. A little blue cheese can have a big impact on a dish and in this appetizer it is front and center. So if you are not a fan of blue cheese this appetizer may not be for you. The closest substitute would be gorgonzola for a slightly milder taste. But let’s be honest, the potency is what makes savory blue cheese such an excellent combo with sweet pears or other tart flavors.
Plain Greek Yogurt – To make the blue cheese mixture I used plain Greek yogurt because it has a very neutral base and a slightly tangy flavor yet it blends well to make a whip. I used the fat free version but you can use whatever version you want, I would just stick to plain.
Pecans – To add an earthy flavor I topped the appetizers with pecans. You could also use walnuts for a similar flavor.
Honey – My go to honey is Mike’s Hot Honey, but if you don’t like spicy flavors, regular honey works fine too. It just adds a little bit of extra sweetness to the bite.
Cutting the Pears
To achieve the maximum number of slices, I think it works best to cut the pears around the core on either side into uniform slices that are easy to pick up and eat. About 1/4 inch thick slices are ideal. If they are too small they are difficult to grab.
Topping the Pears
The best way to create a fancy appetizer is to use a piping bag and a large star tip to top the pears with the blue cheese mixture. If you don’t have a piping bag you can use a Ziplock bag which is my preferred method. Simply place the bag inside a large mug and fold over the zipper edge. Then scoop the mixed filling ingredients into the bag, get all the air out, and zip it closed. Then use a pair of scissors and cut off 3/4 inch of one corner of the Ziplock bag. Now you can simply squeeze the mixture onto each pear. If you have a star tip you can place it in the corner of the bag before filling it to create a pretty design.

A simple combination of sweet and savory flavors come together for a delicious blue cheese appetizer. So if you are a fan of blue cheese and easy appetizer recipes you have to try these whipped blue cheese pear appetizer bites with honey.
Ingredients
- 3 D’Anjou Pears sliced
- 5 oz Crumbled Blue Cheese
- 5.3 oz Plain Greek Yogurt
- 1 1/4 cup Pecans
- Honey
Instructions
- Wash pears and cut into 1/4 inch slices. If you cut them too thin they will be difficult to pick up.
- In a medium sized bowl whip together the blue cheese crumbles and the Greek yogurt until smooth. This works best with an electric mixer.
- Using a piping bag and a star tip, squeeze a dollop of the blue cheese mixture onto each sliced pear. See my notes above on my Ziplock bag method.
- Place a pecan on top of each blue cheese dollop.
- Top with a drizzle of honey.
- Serve immediately.
Notes
Pears come in different sizes which may result in leftover topping. Each D’Anjou pear yields about 15 slices.
Makes 40-50 pear appetizers depending on pear size.

Storage
I recommend making these right before serving. Once the pears are sliced they do not keep well. If you are running short on time, whip the blue cheese mixture and store in the fridge for up to a day before adding to the pear slices and drizzling with honey.
