What is Bruschetta Dip?
First, let’s answer the question, what is traditional bruschetta? Bruschetta is a classic Italian appetizer typically made with a mixture of diced juicy tomatoes, fresh basil, garlic, red onions, and balsamic vinegar severed on top of small slices of crusty bread.
For this recipe I wanted to combine this popular small plate with feta to make a cheesy bruschetta dip. And I must say, this one is the perfect appetizer for the holidays!
Ingredients
This yummy dip is easy to make, uses simple ingredients, and will be the star of the show! I will break down what I use and why and what ingredients will give you the best results.
Feta Cheese – The base in this dip is a combination of cream cheese, feta, and Greek yogurt. I used a feta cheese chunk in this recipe, but I have also made it with crumbled feta. It does work both ways but I think the consistency and flavor is a bit better with the chunk feta. This can be found in the grocery store in the cheese section or sometimes near the deli.
Greek Yogurt – I used non-fat plain Greek yogurt here because it is a relatively neutral base and a low calorie option. The closest substitute would probably be sour cream, although I have not tested it with sour cream.
Cream Cheese – I also used a little bit of cream cheese in the base of this dip. I used the light version, but feel free to use any version or brand you want. You can also use whipped cream cheese.
Garlic – When I cook I almost always use jarred garlic, because it is easy and it keeps for a long time in the fridge. Feel free to use real garlic cloves though.
Lemon Juice – To balance out the dip and add some acidity to the creamy cheese mixture I added a little fresh lemon juice. This is a great way to cut some of the fat in the cheeses.
Olive Oil – I used a splash of olive oil to thin out the whipped feta and on the bruschetta itself. A good substitute would be avocado oil because of its neutral flavor.
Tomatoes – I used fresh Roma tomatoes from my garden because I had them on hand. Roma tomatoes work best because they contain less guts, but I have also used cherry tomatoes before. Any fresh tomatoes will work here so long as you remove the insides and dice them small or you can use canned tomatoes if you are short on time.
Fresh Basil – There is truly nothing like fresh chopped basil! It adds so much to this bruschetta recipe. Try not to substitute it for dried basil, it’s just not the same.
Red Onion – Since the onions in this bruschetta dip are served raw, red onions are the best choice here.
Salt & Black Pepper – For a little bit of extra seasoning.
Dippers – I used sea salt pita crackers, but feel free to use crostini toasts, pita chips, or melba toast.
Mixing the Dip
The best way to make this is to whip the feta with an electric hand mixer and mix the tomato bruschetta ingredients separately by hand with a spoon. Then add the whipped feta to the bottom of a serving dish and top with the tomato mixture. I also like to divide the balsamic vinegar and add a drizzle around the bowl. You can mix it all together as well, but it will not have the same aesthetic.

- Place the tomato mixture in the center on top of the cheese mixture.
- Using the back of a spoon or your finger, create a divot like moat around the bowl outside of the bruschetta toppings for the additional balsamic vinegar.

Notes
I do not recommend making this ahead of time because it starts to look muddy and looses the pretty factor. If you are short on time, make the whipped feta and dice up the bruschetta ingredients but do not mix anything until right before serving.
